This is the ensign of Columbus’ ships in 1492, when he discovered the New World. It has the initials for Spanish King Fernando and Spanish Queen Ysabel, with a cross between the initials and crowns above them. We have this from Colombus’ Journal describing his first landing: ” . . . the admiral went ashore in the armed boat, and Martin Alonso Pinzon [captain of the Pinta] and Vicente Yanez, his brother, who was captain of the Nina. The admiral brought out the royal standard, and the captains went with two banners of the Green Cross, which the admiral flew on all the ships as a flag, with an F and a Y, and over each letter their crown, one being on one side of the cross and the other on the other.”
This is an American made flag of our toughest, most durable nylon fabric. It has solid brass grommets. You won’t find a nylon flag with higher tensile and tear strength, yet it flies very well in the wind. It has excellent strength retention under UV exposure, and high resistance to UV fading. The colors are deeper, brighter and last over time, due to the aniline dyeing process. There is a one inch double edge fold with four rows of stitching on the fly edge. It has 1 1/2 inch reinforced stitching vertically at the fly corners, and 3 1/2 inch reinforced hem stitching (horizontal) at top of bottom of the fly.
