This is the Provincial Flag of New Brunswick Flag in Canada. The gold lion on a red background represents the German Duchy of Brunswick, from which New Brunswick takes its name. The Duchy of Brunswick was in the possession of Britain’s King George III in 1794, the year the province was established. (A duchy is the territory ruled by a duke or duchess.)
